Company description:
Sustainergy is a Contract Electrical Engineering Company. We focus on all Electrical Engineering related work available as medium to long term contracts - medium to long term meaning six months upwards on a time scale.
These medium to long term contracts arise for our clients because they may have work which lasts only for 6 months to 2 years and not thereafter. In situations like this, taking on full time, long term staff does not make sense. Another reason could be that clients cannot find staff on a permanent basis and taking on qualified contract staff at long term rates which are not too far off from the “total employment cost” makes good commercial sense. Because of our focus around this niche for a length of time and the volumes we do within this niche across Australia and across industry sectors, we are able to deliver to our clients on a cost not too far off from the total employment cost – total employment cost including payroll tax, annual and sick leave, various public, PI and worker's compensation insurances, HR and Staffing overheads, Staff Turnover and Training overheads, etc
The Contracting is of experienced electrical engineering personnel from Sustainergy – staff best qualified in Controls, Automation or Instrumentation related disciplines.
This is an area where we have developed a successful niche since 1996 having a dedicated team of talented individuals with deep experience in PLCs, SCADA, HMIs or Telemetry related disciplines.
Work could include conceptual design, configuration, programming, testing, commissioning, site related work and maintenance, de-commissioning and documentation.
Clients catered for, more often than not are large engineering companies, energy companies, utilities and manufacturing companies.
We also cater to other Electrical Engineering needs such as drafting, power systems design, contracts engineering, project management and project engineering – as long as it is Electrical Engineering related.
The business arose from the Principal's headhunting days pre-1996 and the observation of the paucity of deep talent in this niche within Australia relative to markets like South Africa , India , Philippines , UK and the US – where we tap into talent from, even today. When we say deep talent we are talking about a large pool of experienced electrical engineers for ever increasing new engineering projects – so much so that as an analogy, when new opportunities arose we found it was the same individuals changing seats on the same bus rather than new people becoming available for the ever increasing number of new buses (projects)
The headhunting and our own migrant background twenty five or so years back has been a crucial strength in identifying the best talent available from the global pool of talent – irrespective of where the talent resides, and in looking after this talent within the first 12-24 months of their arrival into Australia when assimilation is most crucial.
That then is the basic premise of our business – access to globally the best talent, at market competitive rates, with minimum fuss for all our stakeholders.
This “minimum fuss” has been made possible through our total packaged approach to talent – irrespective of the geography where the talent is sourced from. Total packaged approach to the extent that if the best talent for a particular engineering spec is from overseas then we take full responsibility along the value chain including sponsoring for the long term 457 visa, organizing the relocation including absorbing the costings for the relocation up front, facilitating the induction into Australia , organizing rentals, bank account openings, the financing of early settling expenses like rental bonds, finance for cars, etc, paying market competitive salaries to staff, organizing regular appraisals and work relevant training for staff and doing regular career appraisals.
The emphasis being on making life simple for all our stakeholders – staff and clients.
From our client's perspective it is cleaner having one single rate for the best globally available talent. It conveys up front what one is up for – no more no less, and in getting the best talent it makes for lower project risk and less ramp up time for new hires.
From our employee's perspective, in making them “at home” we have found they perform much better on the job from day one and the better they perform the better we look as a company and get repeat orders.
For us as a company it works better too, because in taking full ownership, it strategically forced us to be extremely strategic in our hiring decisions since we became the risk takers in this overseas hire, becoming the direct employers as compared to recruitment companies who do not take the risk. Strategically that has built us a naturally robust business model – both for the principals and the staff within Sustainergy, who then live and prosper through the success of the hires made assessed over a course of time.
