Position Title: Grounding and Electrical Effects Engineer

Summary
An opportunity currently exists for an Electrical Engineer reporting to the Principal Engineer, Electrical Effects, in the Safety and Services Department, located in Calgary.
Responsibilities
Primary accountability will be the management of AltaLink’s substation grounding program, which includes safe substation Ground Potential Rise (GPR) and Step/Touch Potentials.
Maintain the substation grounding databases and analysis program and models used by AltaLink related to substation grounding, including SES CDEGS.
Provide technical support to AltaLink for issues related to substation and transmission line equipment grounding (Equi-potential Bonding and Grounding (EB&G) and Temporary Protective Grounds (TPG)).
Lead the development, modification or interpretation of standards and practices related to safe grounding practices.
Secondary accountability will be helping in the management of issues at AltaLink related to Electrical Effects (electric and magnetic fields (EMF), Interference (television, radio, GPS), Induction (pipeline, telephone, fence, building), Stray/Tingle Voltage and audible noise) and Power Quality (harmonics, voltage imbalance).
Qualifications
Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University or Technical College.
Must be registered as a Professional Engineer with APEGGA or other Canadian Professional Engineering Associations, or working to acquire APEGGA professional status.
3-5 years experience in the power system industry is preferred.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must have strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships, and must be a strong team player.
Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills and able to manage multiple competing priorities.
Must have strong reporting and graphical presentation skills.
Formal training in the areas of Grounding, Electrical Effects or Protection and Control is preferred.
Familiarity with Grounding or Electrical Effects analyzers and software (CDEGS, CAFÉ) would be an asset.
Knowledge of applicable CSA, IEC and IEEE standards would be an asset.
