Communications Manager
 

Builds, manages and coaches a cohesive team of communications staff.- Uses a broad range of communication tools and vehicles, either directly or through collaboration with other team members, to inform and educate employees, the public and shareholders about business progress and direction. This can include news releases, annual reports, quarterly performance results, leadership communication sessions, speeches, presentation templates, company newsletter, intranet/internet, employee benefits and rewards material, and milestone celebrations.
- Anticipates and plans for the impact of Oil Sands issues on other stakeholders groups, including Major Projects worker who are camp guests, Suncor employees traveling to the Oil Sands site (using roads, planes and infrastructure) and construction trades working in / near Oil Sands facilities.
- Takes ownership for actions; shows leadership in communication expertise.
- Demonstrates understanding of internal and external stakeholders and the marketplace.
- Negotiates on behalf of Suncor; enters into agreements on behalf of the company.- Ensures brand management and corporate standards are followed in all areas of communication.
- Analyzes and enhances work flow/processes; supports internal processes and leadership development; works with peers to build organizational effectiveness.
- Manages department budget.
- Understands the complexity of the Oil Sands business processes and systems, and makes informed communications recommendations based on that knowledge.
- Sensitive to current political/social environment and includes this in decision making.
- Ensures decisions are aligned with Suncor’s core purpose, values, and beliefs and stakeholder relations’ policy.Qualification Requirements:The successful candidate must have a diploma or a university degree with a minimum of 10 years experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.Must have a proven track record of strong leadership focused on planning and execution, and people development.Must have strong project management skills coupled with exceptional written and oral communication abilities.Working Conditions:Achieving world-class safety excellence is key to Suncor’s goal of becoming a sustainable energy company.
