This is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Radiographer to join an experienced team in a hospital which provides the highest standards of patient care. The successful candidate will undertake mainly general and theatre radiography with the possibility of some mammography also. This position offers favourable working hours of 9-5 four days a week and then one day a week 12.30-8pm with a standby on-call. All over time is paid at enhanced rates and there is also private healthcare cover and a pension scheme offered to all staff.
Responsibilities:
• Ensure that all patients sent for examination are referred in accordance with The Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000, commonly referred to as IRMER, with relevant clinical information obtained and recorded prior to any diagnostic examination being performed. Reference must be made to the Regulations (IRMER), Approved Code of Practice, Royal College of Radiologists’ Guidelines and any Local Rules, Systems of Work and policies & procedures that may be current.
• Provide clinical assistance, as directed, to the consultant radiologists or any other doctor who may reasonably require it.
• Apply basic nursing skills in the care and management of the patient and inform the clinicians and/or nursing staff of any changes in the patient’s condition whilst in your care.
• Implement knowledge and practical ability in emergency procedures (e.g. Fire and Cardiac arrest) and the control of cross infection, attending mandatory training in these topics as directed.
• Co-ordinate with other departments, as required, for patient care and administration, maintaining co-operative relationships at all times.
• Ensure that records are accurate, legible, and in accordance with statutory requirements and “best practice”.
• Report reductions in stock items and ensure rotation of stock.
• Participate actively in departmental meetings and attend team briefing sessions with the Imaging Manager.
• Maintain strict patient and business confidentiality whilst employed by the Company and following termination of employment.
• Ensure prompt and accurate billing for all examinations.
• Deal with staff, visitors and patients in a courteous and professional manner at all times, constantly updating knowledge of services and facilities available.
• Be an ambassador for the Hospital at all times.
• Observe all current codes of professional conduct as may be laid down by the Health Professions Council, Society of Radiographers or any other professional organisation relating to diagnostic radiography.
• Operate and help to maintain imaging equipment in accordance with The Ionising Radiation Regulations 1999, reporting any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the Imaging Manager immediately. Equipment considered to be faulty must be taken out of action, pending repair, and a notice to that affect clearly displayed upon it.
• Ensure that all images produced are of diagnostic quality, keeping the radiation dose as low as reasonably practical. If the requested diagnostic information can be obtained by imaging modalities that do not use ionising radiation, this must be brought to the attention of the referring clinician.
• Instruct staff, clinicians and visitors in the safe working practices of the department with particular relevance to the use of ionising radiation. Assist in orientation of new staff to the Hospital, as required.
• Demonstrate a commitment to the corporate quality objectives by participating in the IiP and Health Quality Service accreditation programmes.
• Monitor your own performance and attend regular reviews with the Imaging Manager to discuss progress.
• Comply with obligations in respect of the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC) and all current Health & Safety legislation.
• Keep abreast of current developments in radiography, attending specialist courses or undergoing on-site training/instruction as required. All staff are expected to be responsible for their own continuous professional development (CPD). You should be open to change and the learning connected with this to ensure the hospital remains effective.
Requirements:
• DCR(R), BSc or recognised equivalent qualification in diagnostic radiography.
• Current HPC (Health Professions Council) registration.
• Ideally a minimum of 4 years post qualifying radiographic work experience.
