This hospital is looking to recruit a Chief Pharmacist. The role of this pharmacy is to optimise patient’s medication therapy and care, through the safe, reliable and efficient supply, dispensing, distribution and control of all pharmaceutical products to ward and retail outlet.If you are looking to expand on your experience or to work in a hospital where patient care and employee satisfaction are high on the agenda. The staff consist of two Senior Pharmacists, Senior Pharmaceutical Technicians (Hospital and Retail). Duties
• The development and management of inpatient and outpatient services.
• Co-ordinating and managing the day to day running of the dispensary.
• Being responsible for the accurate dispensing and distribution of drugs and medicines.
• Management of the allocated department budget.
• Providing on-going information and support to other healthcare professionals.
• To be able to prepare powerful and complex formulations.
• Ensuring medication reaches the patient in the correct form and dose. This may be tablets, capsules, mixtures, injections or creams.
• Providing advice on medicines to individual patients, particularly to those who require complex drug therapy.
• Liaising with physicians and other fellow health care professionals to ensure the delivery of safe, effective and economic drug treatment.
• Overseeing quality checks to detect and prevent harmful drug interactions or reactions and potential mistakes
• To anticipate problems when two or more drugs are used together.
• Keeping up to date with and contributing to research and development, often in collaboration with medical staff and colleagues in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Writing guidelines for drug use within the hospital, preparing bulletins and implementing hospital regulations.
• Monitoring every stage of medication therapy to improve all aspects of delivery.
• Provide drug information, i.e. storage, handling, dosages, interactions, side effects and duration of uses.
• Maintain adequate stocking levels within all departments as well as the pharmacy department.
• Providing information to individual ward areas on budgets and expenditure on drugs.

Requirements:

• Be registered or entitled to be registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland.
• A recognised qualification within Pharmacology.
• Ideally have 5 year post graduate experience.
• Have an awareness and sensitivity towards patient needs
