THE POSITION
The Senior Designer is responsible for ensuring resource requirements to meet current and future design workload are identified, and plans put in place to ensure their availability.
May supervise or direct personnel on special studies or special segments of a client project. May participate in the formulation and development of advanced engineering concepts associated with proposal development, design or construction.
Duties
-Check ISOs
-Clash detection of models with other discipline models.
-Coordination with designers and engineers of other disciplines.
-Design and drafting of piping/mechanical plant models using Project Specifications and Procedures.
-Detail model existing structures, plant and equipment.
-Ensuring all drawings are checked to the appropriate level.
-Ensuring compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities.
-In conjunction with engineering staff, prepare design concepts for internal and client review.
-In conjunction with engineering staff, produce detailed engineering drawings and documentation for identified and approved concepts/projects.
-Keep in contact with client engineering, maintenance and operations staff both in person and via phone, email etc regarding proposal and project execution.
-Layout complex plant and piping systems.
-Leadership of a multi-discipline design and drafting group.
-Locate and design pipe supports with stress engineer input.
-Maintaining technical knowledge to ensure appropriate technologies are incorporated into designs and most cost effective design techniques are utilised.
-Participation in formal engineering review processes.
-Plan resource requirements to meet current and future needs for a particular area.
-Providing technical input to designs by conducting technical critiques as appropriate.
-Responsible for providing technical support and mentoring to all draftspeople that are involved in a design function.
-Reviewing standard of design and capital cost estimates, drawings and other engineering outputs to ensure deliverables are fit for purpose.
-Using vendor drawings and information to develop and check the model.
QUALIFICATIONS
-Detailed design and modelling skills for plant layout, piping and mechanical equipment.
-Knowledge of various relevant standards as required for
piping design.
-Multi discipline coordination and team skills required.
-Mechanical engineering Diploma or Equivalent with at least 15 years Drafting experience with an engineering contracting or consultancy organisation in the mining/resource development or minerals processing industry.
-Excellent general computer skills with emphasis on Microstation and including 3D Design software.
-Strong customer focus.
-Experience with 3Di modeling systems and Microstation.
-Experience in leading a group of designers and drafters, and administration of an area. Of prime importance is that we require the Lead Area Designers to regularly complete out piping progress sheets (not yet automated), and isometric control sheets.
ASSETS
-Experience required in the following Software Package - Bentley Plantspace design series version 8.5 and Bentley Datamanager 2004 or similar package eg PD
