Position Summary
Under the authority of the Board of Directors and in accordance with established policies and procedure, the Executive Director will assume the following tasks and responsibilities:
* Directing the overall operations, budgets and capital assets of the organization;
* Managing all permanent, part-time and contract staff and volunteers;
* Directing the overall programming of the organization;
* Promoting the organization and its programs in the media and to the general public, and managing the image of the organization in a senior public relations role;
* Developing and maintaining professional liaison with all levels of government.

Qualifications
Education
* University degree in a related field
Knowledge, skills and abilities
* Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to non-profit/ voluntary organizations
* Knowledge of all federal and provincial legislation applicable to voluntary sector organizations including: employment standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, charities, taxation, CPP, EI, health coverage etc…
* Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization
* Knowledge of human resources management
* Knowledge of financial management
* Knowledge of project management
* Entrepreneurial perspective
Proficiency in the use of computers for:
* Word processing
* Financial management
* E-mail
* Internet
Personal characteristics
The Executive Director should demonstrate competence in some or all of the following:

Experience
* 5 or more years of progressive management experience as a Executive Director or senior manager, preferably in a voluntary sector organization
Working Conditions
* Executive Directors usually work in an office environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non standard workplaces.
* Executive Directors work a standard work week, but additionally will often work evening, weekend and overtime hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representing the organization at pubic events or meeting the requirements of the position.
