Description and Responsibilities
OCLS invites qualified candidates to apply for this full-time appointment in the combined areas of systems administration and ILS support helpdesk, for the community colleges of Ontario. ILS is currently SirsiDynix Symphony. Major responsibilities include:
•Support the OCLS network environment by updating servers as needed, managing backups and maintaining server integrity;
•Install, remove and modify applications as required;
•Work with OCLS support contractors to address problems and needed enhancements expeditiously;
•Support the OCLS desktop environment by maintaining desktop applications, troubleshooting equipment and software and addressing user inquiries;
•Provide helpdesk services and tier 1 support to ILS consortium members, solving problems in a timely manner where possible and escalating as appropriate where it is not possible;
•Act as lead contact with ILS and other vendors to resolve problems in the ILS;
•Maintain documentation and user manuals and develop procedures and documentation for system issues;
•Maintain integrated library system desktop software for the consortium;
•Manage software upgrades, apply patches and assist in the scheduling of upgrades and new releases to the online library system;
•Maintain knowledge of relevant trends and issues in the field.
Qualifications
•Diploma in computing, specifically systems administration and networking or equivalent combination of education and experience;
•Library Technician diploma or its equivalent from a recognized program would be an asset;
•Minimum of five (5) years related experience: system administration, MS Exchange , network connectivity and security;
•Experience at an administrative level with SirsiDynix Unicorn or SirsiDynix Symphony would be an asset;
•Experience with Unix as well as Windows server environments
•Excellent problem solving, analytical and organizational skills;
•Excellent oral and written communication skills;
•Ability to collaborate successfully with colleagues and other professionals in an environment characterized by rapid change;
•Ability to work independently or as part of a team;
•Experience in and strong commitment to outstanding user experience;
•Project management experience;
•Experience with trouble ticket tracking and report generating, preferably in an ILS environment;
•Fluency in French as well as the English language would be an asset.
Compensation
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications.
