Company Profile
Our client is a Western Canadian provider of structural steel and is currently expanding their operations into British Columbia.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all projects are well managed and that customer needs are addressed
- Stay current on commercial and institutional construction projects and identify all projects that meet the bidding criteria
- To provide leadership and drive in the ongoing analysis and improvement of company operations
- Maintain good employee relationships and invest in the development of employee skills, knowledge and flexibility
- To profitably manage the operations of the fabrication operations
- To develop, or assist in the development of and implement policies and procedures required to ensure efficient and safe
operations
- Ensure all company operations fully comply with all Laws, Government Regulations and Company Safety Rules and
Policies
- Provide support to the Field Superintendent in the management of field employees
- Build and maintain good relationships with key customers
- Take direct responsibility and provide leadership in the development and implementation of safety, quality and productivity
programs within the organization
- Manage all office and shop personnel, which includes work allocation, staffing, training, production scheduling and
problem resolution
- Evaluate the performance of direct reports and provide coaching and development opportunities to improve employee
performance
- Enhance current systems and coordinate the design and implementation of improved data collection and analysis systems
for the business unit, to include but not be limited to the monitoring of safety, quality, productivity, inventory control and
financial performance
- As a member of the management team, review, interpret and provide financial and operations reporting
- Actively participate in the quotation process for work being bid
- Provide recommendations and assistance to senior management in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of
modifications to existing operations, systems, and procedures
- In cooperation with the Vice President of Operations and Controller develop annual operating budgets, capital plans and
provide fiscal direction to the operation
- Perform other job related duties as they arise or are assigned by the Vice President
Qualifications:
- Successfully completed post secondary education in a technical discipline
- Experience in the fabrication of structural steel
- 5 years of experience in managing a steel fabrication operation
- Experience managing union operations
- A history of leading business improvement and creating a continuous improvement work culture
- Skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing
new strategies and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Able to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
- Understanding of business improvement principles
- Ability to develop, mentor and foster a cooperative work environment
- Budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures
