Health and Safety Specialist

The Position:

The successful candidate will join our growing Contaminated Sites team serving a major Client in the oil and gas sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall management of all project-specific Health and Safety initiatives. It is expected the candidate will be self-motivated, and will demonstrate strong time management and communication skills. Duties will include but are not necessarily limited to:

• Act as a resource to management on the alignment of Regional & National with project-specific objectives;
• Collect/compile and report on monthly, quarterly and annual safety performance indicators;
• Lead health and safety initiatives to proactively protect the health and safety of Golder’s employees, clients and the public;
• Assist the Project Managers and the Prairies Regional H&S Coordinator in the investigation of incidents when required;
• Coordinate and conduct H&S training and maintain up to date documentation;
• Act as a resource to the Calgary Joint Health and Safety Committee;
• Assist Group H&S representatives to address concerns: preparation of site specific H&S plans, emergency response plans, site inspections, hazard assessment and mitigation , planned job obervations, etc.;
• Coordinate regular site safety inspections;
• Coordinate drug and alcohol testing for project staff as required;
• Act as a resource in the development of Standard Work Procedures as needed.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
• Post-secondary diploma or degree or related professional development demonstrating knowledge and competency if the field of health and safety;
• Working towards obtaining the Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation
• Minimum of 3 years experience in H&S
• Good understanding of industry best management practices and programs (Partnerships Audit Tool (COR) and PIR Program, Enform IRP 9, Enform IRP 16 etc.);
• Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products
• Good organizational skills ( record keeping, time management and follow-up)
• Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, communication and presentation skills
• Good problem solver with the ability to identify alternative solutions
