TEMPORARY MATERNITY LEAVE POSITION
TAX & ASSESSMENT CLERK

The City of Brooks has an immediate opening for a Tax & Assessment Clerk operating out of City Hall. This is a temporary maternity leave position working to October 2015. Reporting to the Manager of Finance, this position is responsible for the administration of municipal taxation including maintaining the property assessments, property tax billings, penalties, school declarations, tax recoveries and preauthorized payments.

As Tax & Assessment Clerk you will perform a wide variety of duties including but not limited to: provide effective and efficient administration of the City’s tax accounts including establishment of new accounts, account maintenance, levies, adjustments, penalties and collection of arrears; prepare, maintain and balance the rolls for assessment, taxation and surface irrigation as required by the Municipal Government Act (MGA), municipal bylaws and regulations; prepare and distribute annual tax levies, including supplementary levies throughout the year; and answer all inquiries pertaining to municipal taxes and assessment in a professional and courteous manner.

The successful applicant must have completed the twelfth (12th) school grade, or equivalent, supplemented by an Accounting Certificate or current enrolment in an Accounting Certificate Program. A minimum of one (1) year experience in an office accounting environment is preferred. Knowledge of accounting procedures and regulations and of the Municipal Government Act is a definite asset. Applicants must provide a criminal records check prior to the start of employment.

The City of Brooks offers a competitive salary for this position. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:15pm. The successful applicant will receive a free family membership to the Lakeside Leisure Centre during the term of employment.
