Commercial Development Manager - Access Pipeline

The Company
Access Pipeline Inc. (“Access”) is owned by Devon NEC Corporation and MEG Energy Corp., each with an undivided 50% working interest. Access is responsible for all activities of the Joint Venture which has been formed to construct, operate and own the pipeline system assets. The system has been developed to primarily accommodate steam assisted gravity drainage heavy oil producing facilities, owned by Devon NEC Corporation and MEG in the Christina Lake area of Northeast Alberta, where three heavy oil production facilities are connected to the pipeline. Formed in 2005, Access Pipeline builds and operates state-of-the-art pipelines that provide access to markets for their owners. In recent years, Access has grown from its initial startup of 20 employees to employing over 180 employees presently. A major expansion of the pipeline is underway adding a 42” Blend line from Christina Lake to the Sturgeon Terminal.

The Function
The Commercial Development Manager is a new role at Access Pipeline, and will assume primary responsibility for commercial and business development activities within the organization. Reporting to the VP Project Development & Delivery, this position is the senior representative and liaison with Access’ 2 joint venture Owners, and the primary point of contact with multiple internal stakeholders on all matters pertaining to pipeline transportation-related commercial initiatives including requests, proposals, and inquiries. This leadership role will work closely in collaboration with Access’ Owners and Executive Management, and is accountable for creating, promoting and successfully implementing a commercial business management framework.

The mandate for this role includes commercial management, business development support, collaboration with Access’ Owners, and maintaining industry knowledge and contacts.

Commercial Management & Business Development
-Lead management of existing pipeline transportation-related commercial agreements (e.g. connection, buy/sell agreements)
-Support development and lead Implementation of Business Development strategies and initiatives
-Coordinate legal and economic reviews as required
-Lead contact with Owners, internal resources, 3rd parties
-Build and maintain relationships with Owners and with other stakeholders to establish credibility, and ensure effective communications
-Proactively establish strong working relationships with the Owners’ business development and marketing specialists to collaboratively contribute to the Owners’ commercial success
-Represent Access in meetings with the Owners and other stakeholders to discuss business development opportunities, initiatives, issues and solutions
-Report to the Executive Leadership Team on critical business development issues and participate as a member of the Senior Management Team
-Act as the company’s representative at industry events and functions
-Develop and identify value-added transportation opportunities for Owners or 3rd parties

Design and implement, in close consultation with senior management, a commercial business management framework
-Plan and implement a change management strategy to successfully transition to a focused commercial interface management approach
-Consult with Executive and Senior Management to obtain input/collaboration and maintain effective and central management of commercial initiatives and projects
-Identify resident expertise and synthesize commercial/industry intelligence
-Create and propose for senior management review, asset development strategies that create value and long term profitability
-Develop and maintain tracking, reporting and communication networks

Coordinate and collaborate with internal experts and stakeholders required to support commercial and business development activities, including:
-Chair committees/project team meetings
-Facilitate consultation and collaboration with subject experts to explore opportunities and generate ideas for value-added transportation solutions
-Prioritize issues, define projects sponsors/leads, formulate scopes, resource requirements and deliverables

The Individual
The successful candidate will have proven strengths in business development, contracts, economic evaluations, and joint interest management. As well, they will have skills in pipeline project development and management, engineering, pipeline and facility operations, and have demonstrated success in leading projects and building relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders.
