Our company headquarters in Richmond, BC is responsible for production, sales, and technical support for our customers. We are currently looking for a professional with a strong engineering background to be part of our Engineering Department as a Systems Engineer.

Summary:

Norsat is looking for a highly motivated and energetic Systems Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary engineering team. Norsat designs and delivers satellite based communications solutions for people on the move including broadcasters, disaster relief, tele-medicine and government. Theses solutions include highly integrated, easy to use portable satellite terminals and end user applications for the customer.

The Systems Engineer will report to the Director of Engineering and will also work closely with sales and marketing. The systems engineer will work with sales and marketing to determine market requirements and with the engineering team to design a solution.

The Systems Engineer will also be part of the engineering team designing new products and maintaining existing products.




Responsibilities:
• Work as an integral member of the engineering team to design and engineer solutions for our customers. Work with sales, marketing and directly with the customer to determine the requirements and constraints
• Work as part of the engineering team to engineer solutions that meet our customers requirements
• Provide support to proposal writing activities.
• Provide engineering analysis
• Write requirements documents, technical specifications, test plans and white papers
• Review and edit operators manuals
• Review and edit marketing documentation
• Create training material and provide training
• Provide support to customer service

Specific Technical Skills Required:
• Knowledge of satellite equipment and operation including VSATs, earth stations, marine and mobile systems
• Knowledge and experience designing satellite data networks (eg. iDirect, Viasat, Vipersat)
• Understanding of technologies used in satellite communications including IP acceleration, compression
• Knowledge of telephony and technologies required for telco over satellite
• Knowledge of cellular phone networks.
• Knowledge and experience with IP networks including routing, VOIP, LAN, WAN, video conferencing, IP video streaming and forwarding
• Knowledge of network performance metrics and service level agreements
• the Programming experience with C# or C++ using Microsoft .Net framework is necessary.

Education and Level of Overall Experience:
• BSc in Electrical Engineering
• 5+ years experience in satellite, cellular, microwave or network design
