Underwriter - Junior to Senior

Job Summary

This position will service a portfolio of commercial property & casualty accounts requiring demonstrated underwriting abilities and a commitment to customer service excellence. Participation in the production and profit goals in order to meet company objectives. This position reports to the Commercial Lines Manager and Commercial Lines Supervisor (P&C).

Job Responsibilities

Assess price and negotiate new and existing business of low to medium complexity. Review, underwrite and enter Commercial Lines business including new business, renewals and endorsements. Quote and authorize business within established corporate guidelines and individual authority levels. Respond to inquiries from Brokers regarding modification to policies in a prompt and efficient manner. Develop and maintain excellent Broker relationships to achieve production goals and to develop mutually profitable relationships.

Experience/Skills Required

Ideally, 1 to 3 years demonstrated Commercial Property & Casualty underwriting experience, including demonstrated, positive broker relationship skills. Good problem solving, negotiation, decision making and time management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Good computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel. Knowledge of Teleglobe/RTM would be an asset. We may consider candidates with more extensive experience i.e. at an Intermediate/Senior level.

Education

Ideally, relevant education at a community college or university level. CIP designation or actively enrolled in the CIP/FCIP program is highly desirable.
