Project Controls Analyst
 

Our client has a position open for a Project Controls Analyst, reporting to the Manager, Project Controls. The Project Controls Analyst is required to initiate and maintain the project controls systems for operating and capital projects, and to support the Project Managers by assisting them with a variety of activities related to the management of projects. This position is an integral part of the project team and will provide assistance to the Project Managers to ensure that all transactions related to the projects are properly accounted for, and proper procedures are followed. The Project Controls Analyst will be a liaison between the Projects and Accounting groups. Externally, the Project Controls Analyst will be the key liaison for the cost control and accounting departments of our service providers.
Responsibilities
- Formulate Work Breakdown Structures to suitably address projects that have to be managed within tight timelines and cost constraints.
- Ensure that cost and schedule information is reported in an effective and efficient manner via contractors to the company. Oversee the setting-up of monthly reports, including invoices, accruals, and progress reports.
- Conduct project performance assessments; identify deviations from budgets and schedules. Confirm the validity of variance explanations, and advise the Project Manager of corrective actions.
- Oversee reconciliation and negotiation of vendor payment terms and amounts due when invoices are discrepant.
- Adjust project forecasts and identify where budgets and milestones are at risk.
- Ensure project costs are appropriate by directing routine accuracy checks on invoices.
- Be accountable for the capitalization of project assets placed into rate base, ensuring transactions are processed in an accurate, timely and efficient manner. Ensure that key documents and data are accurate and readily accessible.
- Assist Project Managers in preparing monthly status reports and presentations to stakeholders and customers.
- Oversee the preparation of invoices for services rendered.
- Ensure compliance with company accounting standards.
- Conduct reviews to ensure risk plans are in place. Assess progress on risk mitigation plans.
- Audit compliance with company and regulatory rules and report deviations to the Project Manager.
- Support the Project Manager in preparing Facility Application cost estimates and change orders for stakeholder and customer approval.
- Support the Director Project Execution in developing cost comparisons for stakeholder and customer evaluation.
- Support the Director of Project Execution in the review of cost and schedule estimates against benchmarks and company standards.
- Assign support tasks to Administrative Assistants, including material orders and material reservations, and control the timeliness and quality of outputs.
- Assess opportunities for process and system improvements and participate in the development of new processes and systems. Provide guidance to Project Managers on interfacing Project Controls activities. Train support personnel on SAP. Maintain the PC training manual.
- Populate, maintain and analyze projects database that is used for stakeholder information updates.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Project Controls.
Qualifications
- Completion of some post secondary education in Accounting, Project Management, Business Operations or Business Administration.
- Minimum 2 years of project controls or related experience.
- Working knowledge of Primavera P3.
- Proficient in the use of Finance, Controlling, Project Systems, Materials Management, and Plant Maintenance modules in SAP.
- Experience with accounting practices and GAAP in a regulatory environment.
- Previous experience in a capital accounting role.
- Highly competent in MS Office application.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong team player.
- Proactive and takes accountability seriously.
- Professional and enthusiastic.
- Demonstrated confidence and self-starter.
- Understanding of electrical theory is an asset
