Skills: SQL Server 6.X/7.X, 2000/2005, DBA,
As a senior SQL DBA, you will administer, tune, and troubleshoot production databases and assist with migration to SQL 2005.
Required Skills and Experience
6-7+ years of experience managing SQL databases (SQL 7.0, SQL 2000) in medium to large environments. SQL 2005 DBA experience is a strong plus.
6- 8 years of hands-on experience in a production environment supporting Microsoft Operating Systems (especially Windows 2000 -2003)
Able to set priorities and organize multiple tasks with limited direction
Strong written and verbal communication skills required for extensive contact with various teams, management, and development groups
Strong understanding of PC and server protocols and troubleshooting
Advanced knowledge of client/server systems, administration of relational databases especially Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle), operating systems and database development practices
Good trouble shooting, performance tuning, replication and backup and recovery experience.
Strong problem solving, debugging and database maintenance skills.
Ability to manage change, effectively test fixes and enhancements, and adhere to SDLC principles.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Clustering and operating systems.
Responsibilities:
Research, identify trends and resolve problems (this may include partnering with vendors on problem resolution)
Consult with development teams when errors require a change in operations or require a redesign of the database
Advise development teams on operational and system requirements for new application development (to ensure successful deployment to production environment)
Provide recommendations and implement procedures to maintain and enhance a stable database environment.
Support distributed applications for users in multiple locations.
Administer large SQL Server databases on clustered and non-clustered Windows platforms
Monitor and evaluate server performance and perform tuning and optimization. Additionally recommend improvements to development teams as appropriate
Provide SQL Server DBA support for multiple applications in our development, test, and production environments.
Create and configure databases, handle performance tuning, code migration, disk space management, database backups, database performance and resource monitoring, and troubleshooting. Additionally, create backup plans, test disaster recovery scenarios, manage security and provide specifications related to hardware requests from business groups.
Install, configure, maintain and backup/recover DBMS software and database objects in a Windows environment

Working knowledge of SQL Server 2005
