Is the recognized taxation expert across the Dealership. All tax issues, queries, projects and consulting requirements whether initiated by clients or business unit projects are managed by this role.
Responsible for recruitment, performance management, coaching and development of department staff and the creation of a positive and productive work environment
Establish stretch goals and provide clear direction and continual support for successful delivery of same.
Ensure that overall business plan results and personal objectives are achieved and that necessary succession planning is in place
Participate in and recommend strategic direction for department regarding resource planning, technology platforms, and overall operating efficiencies.
Develop a department structure that is flexible and can continuously meet the changing needs of our clients- internal and external.
Maintain a high degree of related industry (CRA, RQ, IIROC, MFDA, and Insurance) knowledge and general management expertise.
Act as departmental representative in senior management and external meetings as required
Responsible to transfer knowledge through coaching to Operations Specialists, provide support for escalated inquiries and researching legislation; and provide feedback to Management regarding development opportunities
2) Effective & Efficient Service Delivery:
Responsible for managing day to day service delivery of the functional areas to meet both the internal established service level agreement as well as all regulatory requirements, managing escalated issues and ensuring the department provides real value to our customers through:
Key external stakeholder contact for Tax, RESP, and Estate related escalations or complex situations
Resolve escalated Advisor and/or client issues and report outcomes appropriately. Act as key point of contact for industry related issues as well.
Make decisions and/or recommendations to Senior Management related to exceptions outside policy,
Implementation of a continuous improvement process and culture within the business to ensure superior service and efficient technology solutions are realized. Continuously investigate options to ensure the business operates cost effectively
Identification of service and regulatory compliance gaps that negatively impact advisors and develop action plans to implement service solutions
Effectively managing departmental processing risk, while meeting or exceeding established service levels through ensuring regulatory, Legal and Audit requirements are being met
Provide direct support regarding internal and external audits (CRA, IRS, IIROC, MFDA)
Ensure that internal and external policies and regulations are adhered to, to reduce risk and ensure accuracy in tax, RESP Estate reporting and administration.
3) Internal and External Reporting and Analysis:
Develop and maintain relevant department metrics and report requirement as determined by Canadian Tax's Governance role
Provide statistical data that best reflects operational effort to the Management team as required.
Ensure controls are in place so that all tax reporting is completed accurately and on time.
4) Project and Relationship Management:
Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure that the organization overall delivers superior customer service
Represent the department regarding projects that have a direct impact on the functional areas of responsibilities
Lead complex tax projects by providing user requirements utilizing complex tax formulas, reviewing technical product specs, testing the system enhancements and sign-off project post implementations. Represent department for other Business Unit projects
Responsible for communications that advises legislation impacts, systems conversions etc. to Advisors and internal departments.
Expert level knowledge in client taxation, RESP and estates administration
Post-Secondary education in business, accounting or related discipline
Completion or working towards CICA ( in-depth tax course is an asset)
In depth understanding of relevant tax legislation, related as well as operational processing, project methodology and basic accounting principles
Superior leadership skills as demonstrated by 5+ years of experience leading teams in the financial services industry.
