Database and Application Administrator PeopleSoft and Oracle

Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Systems Infrastructure the incumbent is part of an enterprise system database and administration team who design, implement, maintain and support the College’s administrative and academic databases and application system environment. The incumbent will install, maintain, upgrade and support all requests relating to the databases and the application server environment and address requirements for database and application efficiency, security issues and performance issues. Specific responsibilities include:
• Review new system initiatives including major application upgrades to determine database and server requirements and meets with system owners to clarify resource needs including number of users, concurrency and system availability;
• Install database and application products including any related tools for web based services and batch processes and related components for the web server, the application server and the database server;
• Design, build, modify and tune the databases;
• Develop and maintain system utilities and procedures for administering the database and application systems, including backup and recovery procedures to ensure reliability and availability of the databases and applications;
• Review technical release documentation relating to system patches and upgrades and advises the application team of the impact of the system changes;
• Apply patches and upgrades to the software as required;
• Conduct high level software installation test prior to release to the application team for further testing;
• Maintain appropriate database and application system documentation affected by each upgrade and system change;
• Proactively monitor the database and application performance to detect system problems as they arise; trouble-shoots performance issues reported through the College’s helpdesk; tracks and monitors resolution of all the reported issues;
• Collaborate with other IT staff to resolve issues from other IT areas such as the application support group, the networking group and the system services group;
• Document solutions for resolved issues and follows up with end users to ensure complete closure of reported issues;
• Research new database modeling and monitoring tools, end-user query tools and relevant technical development products;
• Attend conferences and courses delivered by outside agencies;
• Other duties as assigned.









Qualifications
This position requires a three year Community College diploma or a three year undergraduate University degree in the field of computer science and formal training in Relational database technologies, or equivalent. Formal certification in database administration either through Oracle or PeopleSoft will be highly desirable. More than five years of hands on computer programming experience is required, including a minimum of three years of combined experience developing and administering relational databases in Oracle within a PeopleSoft environment. Incumbent must have extensive knowledge of at least one of the PeopleSoft modules in Student Administration, Human Resources, Financials, Contributor Relations and/ or CRM system. In addition the incumbent must have experience with database tools and utilities and working knowledge of Unix scripting language. This position requires experience with a variety of different database and application components including, but not limited to, People Tools, People Code, Crystal Reports, Tuxedo, SQR, nVision, Cobol, Web Logic, Web Sphere, Jolt and SSL.
The incumbent must also possess well-developed analytical and problem solving skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and be a highly organized, results oriented person.
