Project Manager
 

The Project Management Office (PMO) within Canada IT has 2 openings for Project Managers. One is position is permanent and the other is a one-year contract. Both positions report to the Director, PMO. The Project Manager will lead and manage multiple, complex technology projects though to successful completion by following a structured project management methodology and approach that aligns with PMI standards. Throughout the project life cycle, the Project Manager will work closely and collaboratively with sponsors, key stakeholders, vendors and project team members (architects, developers, business analysts, integrators, and testing managers) to ensure that the product, service or solution implemented fully meets the costs, time and quality expectations of the client. The project manager is responsible for the overall success of the project and producing the project deliverables. Key responsibilities include:• Working with business analysts to ensure that business requirements are clearly documented, understood and approved• Securing sponsor and leadership approval to initiate the project• Developing and publishing the project charter• Defining the project scope, objectives and key deliverables and securing the required approvals• Developing, managing, and monitoring the project budget, resource plan, risks, issues and change management plans• Preparing and executing the overall project plan and managing all project dependencies• Defining the work, time and costs estimates and forecasts• Managing progress to requirements and monitoring and controlling project work• Reporting progress to the sponsor and key stakeholders• Managing sponsor and stakeholder expectations• Proactively addressing and resolving project issues as they arise The Project Manager must be organized, disciplined and focused with the ability to effectively lead and manage a team of highly skilled technical and business people to produce the project deliverables. To succeed in this position, he/she must be an adept negotiator and facilitator, competent at relationship building and conflict resolution, possessing superior communication skills and acting decisively at all times.QualificationsEducation/Experience• Bachelors degree or equivalent in computer science or business administration• PMP certified• At least five years hands-on project management experience preferably in the financial or banking industry• Proven experience managing multiple medium to large sized complex projects from initial requirements though to implementation and hand-off to the operations and support organization• Good understanding of the software development life cycle methodology and quality assurance processes and practices• Good understanding of change management practices and processes that address organization’s change readinessCapabilitiesCommunications• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels of the organization• Ability to develop and deliver presentations that are clear and that achieve the intended results• Presents their point of view confidently and persuasively• Interacts effectively with the target audience to obtain buy-in on difficult issues (e.g., proposed changes in to business process or culture)• Facilitates sharing of information and ideas, assisting individuals and groups in reaching consensus; negotiates the needs of diverse groupsClient Service Skills• Proactively manages client expectations by:- communicating issues, implications, risks, and results- defining and prioritizing issues, problems, and opportunities- gaining consensus on what needs to be done- recommending approaches and solutions - clearly communicating scope, timing, cost, deliverables and resourcesPeople Development• Motivates and encourages team members by probing them for new ideas and fostering enthusiasm• Resolves issues and encourages co-operation among teams with conflicting goals and objectives• Trains new staff in the technical fundamentals of the job• Works with team members to develop challenging personal development plans that align unit, team and individual needsProblem Solving• Has well developed and proven analytical, problem solving and decision making skills• Develops sound and creative ideas or solutions to customer issues or problems• Encourages others to think creatively in generating solutions to problemsTechnology• Demonstrates knowledge of current and leading-edge technology• Identifies and applies opportunities for using technologies to support business objectivesUnderstanding Business Processes• Conducts focus groups to identify needs and determine strengths and weaknesses in business processes• Recommends an IT project or proposed operational best practice to improve a business processRelationship Management• Participates in strategy or other management meetings with clients • Provides assurance to the client that the strategy will support the business needProduct or Service Integration & Deployment• Assesses the potential impact of a product or service in terms of:- training needs- wor
