Research Specialist Corporate Security
 

Company LLP is conducting a search for a Research Specialist to join its downtown Toronto National Security research team for a one-year maternity leave contract. Reporting directly to the Manager of the National Security Research Group, this position is responsible for providing client acceptance research to the Firm’s business units. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will: · Perform research and analysis in support of the firm’s client acceptance requirements· Conduct thorough and systematic searches of media, legal, the Internet, and other relevant sources, with strong attention to detail· Create customized research reports based on research results to meet the information needs of practitioners for the client acceptance process· Maintain a high level of expertise and knowledge of research products through reading appropriate literature and attending relevant internal and external training seminars and courses· Assist in the evaluation and selection of information resources that may be applicable for client investigations Competencies: The position requires the following competencies: · Research and Analysis - demonstrates knowledge, skill and leadership in conducting research, including the ability to think critically, identify, and synthesize results in support of client acceptance· Communications - possesses excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills· Use of Technology - understands and applies appropriate technology to enhance and support client acceptance reports; demonstrates the proficient use of Internet technologies, software applications, commercial databases and telecommunications technologies (web browsers, intranet/portal, HTML, MS Office applications, Lotus Notes) to enhance research quality and service· Project and Change Management - self-starter with the ability to work independently, juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines; proactively identifies and suggests possible project strategy improvements· Client Service - initiates and maintains client relationships in order to provide and develop research services, and identifies opportunities to improve customer/client service· People Development - takes the initiative to seek development and growth opportunities, and works in a collaborative team environment sharing knowledge, offering feedback and coaching Qualifications: · MLS/MIS or equivalent· A minimum of 3 years experience in a business, finance or professional services firm· Excellent computer skills, with strong familiarity and ease of use with Excel, Word, Lotus Notes and the Internet· Proficiency in the use of Factiva, FPInfomart products, Newscan, Lexis-Nexis, Quicklaw, Dialog, Dun & Bradstreet and Bloomberg
