Senior Technologist, Production Services (midnight contract)
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Production Services Team which is part of the Technology Infrastructure and Operations (TI&O) Group within Canada IT. The successful candidate will join a team with the primary responsibility for providing on-going operational support, monitoring, management, maintenance and security of the company Production and Canada IT Development environments.
We are seeking a motivated individual with excellent practical experience for this technical operations and support role with a focus on Windows Server 2003, Dell server hardware, Veritas NetBackup 6.x, Cisco network equipment and various monitoring and management tools.
This is a one year contract working position with overnight hours from 12:00am to 8:00am Monday to Friday in our Toronto Data Centre. The successful candidate must be a self-starter, motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Some after-hours and weekend work may be required to assist with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance/upgrades or as workload dictates.
Required Skill set:
Experience working in a large enterprise Windows server 2003 and Cisco network infrastructure
Specific experience building, monitoring, managing and supporting both individual and virtual server using Microsoft tools such as SMS, MOM, ADS, DFS
Good working knowledge of physical cabling infrastructure (copper and fibre) including racking and cabling server and network equipment.
Experience with patch management of security updates for all Microsoft products (experience with applying updates to Cisco network equipment an asset)
Working knowledge of MS cluster environments, IIS Web Server Support, McAfee ePO
Specific hands-on experience with Cisco LAN/WAN networking technologies such as switching, routing, TCP/IP stack
Hands-on experience working with data backup technologies with the ability to perform backups and restores (specific experience with Veritas NetBackup and StorageTek an asset)
Ability to accurately manage documentation related to supporting the teams operational functions
Experience coordinating remediation efforts with prime hardware vendors for servers and WAN links
Ability to learn new technologies quickly by applying previous experience
Effective practical technical troubleshooting skills
Must have strong verbal and written skills and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Ensure prompt escalation of all issues affecting Production Services and its team members
Develop detailed task lists associated with daily operational and project related work
Good organizational skills with attention to detail;
Ability to manage pressure and deadlines
Qualifications:
Must have 3-5 years practical experience in an enterprise environment as a technologist implementing and supporting Windows 2003 Server, Intel server hardware platforms, and data network services
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) an asset
Experience working in a 7x24 environment
Education / Certifications:
Degree - BA/B.SC or equivalent industry experience
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) - Windows 2003 desired or equivalent industry experience
Certified Information System Security Professional or MCSE with Security specialty desired
