Senior Technologist, Production Services F/T
This position reports to the Senior Manager, Production Services Team which is part of the Technology Infrastructure and Operations (TI&O) Group within Canada IT. The successful candidate will join a team with the primary responsibility for providing on-going operational support, monitoring, management, maintenance and security of the Company Production and Canada IT Development environments.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent practical experience for this technical operations and support role with a focus on data centre-specific activities including workflow management, leadership and organizational skills. The successful candidate will join our team working in the firms central data centre in Toronto.
The successful candidate must be a self-starter, motivated and able to work in a team environment as well as independently. Leadership, detail orientation, and excellent organizational skills are qualities necessary to be successful in this role. Some after-hours and weekend work will be required to assist with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance/upgrades or as workload dictates. Participation in carrying an after-hours pager will be required on a rotation basis.
Primary responsibilities for this role will include such activities as: workflow management within the DC, server system builds and implementations; server systems and network device administration and support; data backup management; systems monitoring and reporting; and capacity planning. An important part of this role is the overall facilities capacity management including structured cabling and power. The creation of and review of existing standards as well as enforcement of such standards and best practices relating to overall data centre management is essential.
Required Skill set:
Must have in-depth knowledge and practical experience with:
Server hardware platforms including Dell PowerEdge and HP Blade technology;
Systems monitoring, troubleshooting and management tools such as: SCOM, SCCM, WhatsUpGold, ePO, Dell OpenManage / IT Assistant;
Windows Server 2003 administration support and troubleshooting.
Active Directory support
MS cluster environments, IIS Web Server Support, McAfee ePO
TCP/IP stack, DNS, DHCP, SNMP, IP Address management, VLAN management and network troubleshooting;
Data backup software and hardware (incl. Veritas NetBackup Enterprise 6.0 (including options SSO, NDMP, and Vault), and StorageTek Tape Libraries);
Physical cabling infrastructure (copper and fibre) including racking and cabling server and network equipment;
Data centre management including environment, maintenance and security;
Documentation management related to supporting the teams operational functions
Management of vendors for data centre facilities as well as system support
Experience supporting Cisco switches, routers, and content switches; proxy caching appliances;
Ability to learn new technologies quickly by applying previous experience
Effective practical technical troubleshooting skills
Must have strong verbal and written skills and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Ensure prompt escalation and communication of all issues affecting Production Services and its team members
Develop detailed task lists associated with daily operational and project related work
Ability to manage pressure and deadlines
Education / Qualifications:
Degree - BA/B.SC or equivalent industry experience
Must have 3-5 years practical experience as a senior technologist in an enterprise environment as a technologist implementing and supporting Windows Server 2003, Intel server hardware platforms, Cisco Network Switches and Routers
Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer 2003 (MCSE) or equivalent industry experience
