Senior Litigation Legal Assistant (Insurance Defence)

PROFILE
To assist professionals and litigation services team members through all phases of an active litigation. Must enjoy team work in a fast-paced environment and also be able to work independently.
RESPONSIBILITIES
•Drafting of pleadings (i.e., Affidavits, Affidavits of Records, Motions, Bills of Costs)
•Providing litigation support to advocacy professionals in their preparation for examinations for discovery, trials and arbitration hearings, including preparation of trial binders, organizing exhibits
•Reviewing documents to determine privilege and relevancy
•Assisting in the preparation of document production, including sorting, organizing, scanning and data entry (coding) of documents in litigation software (Summation)
•Knowledge of and experience processing eDiscovery in LAW 5.0
•Preparation of undertakings and interrogatories and organization of same, including obtaining responses to undertakings
•Liaising between the legal professionals and various internal and external individuals, groups and clients at all levels in a professional and courteous manner

QUALIFICATIONS
•Prior law firm experience of at least 8 years, in the area of litigation including insurance defence
•Legal assistant diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent experience
•Strong organizational skills
•Good computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
•Advanced experience with Summation litigation software as well as LAW 5.0
•Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to deal with clients in a professional manner
•A high level of skill in both verbal and written communication
•Problem-solving skills and ability to set priorities while dealing with conflicting stressful situations
•Interpersonal skills required to work effectively with other staff and professionals
•Knowledge of CaseLogistix an asset but not required
