Litigation Assistant (Labour and Employment)
The Calgary office of our highly esteemed client continues to grow and they are currently seeking someone with a great attitude and strong work ethic to fill the role of Litigation Assistant and join the team of support staff professionals. The successful candidate is a graduate of a recognized Legal Assistant program (equivalences will be considered) and has a minimum of 3-5 years of solid experience in the area of Labour and Employment Law.
Working closely with the team of litigation lawyers, the ideal candidate is highly organized, has superior computer, proofreading and time management skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and is able to work independently, follow instructions with minimum supervision, and thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment. The right individual is bright, confident, team-oriented and self-motivated with a track record of success in a busy and client-focused environment.
• Communicate effectively, professionally and discreetly with all internal and external clients
• Manage all physical and electronic files on behalf of the lawyers assigned.
• Edit, format, print and revise letters, memos, reports, forms, labels and other printed material from dictation or other instructions
• Coordinate client meetings, arranging for catering or audio-visual equipment as needed
• Organize equipment and other materials for on-site and off-site presentations
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Legal Administrative Assistant in Litigation, with a current working knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Court
• Formal Legal Assistant education and training is preferred, but successful career history in the role will be considered
• Ability to work independently and proceed with objectives under minimal supervision
• Strong attention to detail as it relates to drafting of correspondence, proofreading, preparation of client bills, and management of trust accounts, often under challenging time constraints
• Advanced PC skills, particularly with Microsoft Office and Outlook along with the capacity to learn other firm-specific software
