Jobs in Canada
Biotechnology consultant

I am an internationally recognised scientist with extensive (17 years) experience in optical imaging and spectroscopy. I have expertise in fluorescence/bioluminescence, near infrared and thermal imaging. I also have expertise in mid and near infrared spectroscopy. I have applied all of of these techniques to the study of disease states in animal models, and a number of them in human studies. I have experience applying imaging techniques with numerous animal models of tumour development (including the woodchuck model of hepatitis induced liver cancer, subcutaneously implanted tumour models, and tail vein injection models of metastatic disease). Many of these studies have been conducted in collaboration with industrial partners in Canada. In addition to my scientific expertise I have considerable supervisory and management experience. For example including I recently overhauled the Institute review procedures, including designing a web-based project submission system that managed all aspects of project review. I have supervised a number of PhD students, and for the last 7 years managed a research team of 35 technical and scientific staff. I also have strong written and oral skills, having published over 80 manuscripts in high level journals and presented about 40 invited lectures at international meetings. I have also been involved in developing strategic direction for my current employers (part of the Government of Canada), for example instituting new research programme areas (for example a molecular imaging programme involving bioluminescence, fluorescence, magnetic resonance and positron emission tomography imaging, and a programme involving evaluation of the link between infection and chromic disease). I am currently looking for a new challenge, and have established my own consultancy company to achieve this. I am interested in working in most areas of biotechnology on a contract basis.
