    The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 108 year old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of $48 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15 day annual summer Fair which averages 800,000 guests each year, Playland amusement park which welcomes 375,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, year-round events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance.     We are seeking a mechanically apt and hard-working individual that has a passion for the Ride Attractions industry and the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). The Playland Mechanic – Trades II will work under the direction of the Manager, Playland Tech Maintenance & Ride Operations. The Playland Mechanic – Trades II will operate vehicles and tools/equipment in compliance with all health and safety requirements as determined by WorkSafeBC, and all other applicable legislation and company policies. WHMIS, Lock Out, Zoom Boom, and Fall Arrest training will be provided on an as needed basis.

    What will you do this year?
    In your role as a Playland Mechanic – Trades II, your primary accountabilities will be to:
    Set up and tear down simple and complex rides and attractions
    Conduct repairs to simple and complex rides and attractions
    Responsible for maintaining up to four complex rides and attractions
    Completion of daily ride inspections in an accurate and timely manner and report all deficiencies found
    Supervise junior technicians as required
    Required to be designated as a member of the High Angle Rescue team
    Must meet all required training obligations, including attendance, active participation, exam writing and meeting any other certification requirements. Training requirements include but are not limited to NAARSO, high angle rescue, WHMIS, lock out, zoom boom and fall arrest.
    Must participate in toolbox talk meetings, including leading safety related discussions as required from time to time
    Assist with training of daily ride and vehicle inspections
    Ability to repair all rides and attractions when acting as “On Duty Mechanic”
    Maintain company vehicles as required
    Operate mobile equipment (forklifts, scissor lifts, zoom booms) in a safe and responsible manner
    Complete daily timesheets in an accurate and timely manner
    Maintain a safe and clean working environment
    Perform other related duties as assigned

    What else?
    Must have successful completion of Grade 12
    Successful completion of Post-Secondary training to a Trades Qualification (TQ).
    Heavy Duty Mechanic or Millwright ticket is preferred.
    Must have a valid 5 BC Driver’s license required and provide an up-to-date Driver's Abstract confirming a clean driving record.
    2-3 years general mechanics and supervisory experience is preferred
    Strong interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy and flexibility to work effectively with management, staff, contractors and the public
    Must possess excellent communication and supervisory skills
    Must participate in toolbox talk meetings, including leading safety related discussions as required from time to time
    Must be capable of working at heights (up to 250 feet)
    Previous work experience in the Amusement Industry is preferred
    A valid Forklift Operators license is considered an asset
    Occupational First Aid Level II an asset
    WHIMIS, lock out, zoom boom, and fall arrest training will be provided on the job as needed
    Must be capable of lifting heavy equipment on own or with a partner
    Must be physically able to work in awkward positions
    Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking English for the purposes of written or oral instructions, timesheets, etc.
    Must provide own basic tools, have a mechanical aptitude and have the proven ability to work independently
    Must be able to work from rough sketches or technical diagrams and interpret manufacturer instructions and specifications
    Ability to assemble, repair and maintain simple and complex rides and attractions in conformance with required standards
    Ability to perform ride checks on all rides and attractions
    Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check
