    PRIMARY JOB GOAL
    • Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Residential Careworker provides a comfortable home environment in which individuals with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to live active and fulfilling lives. You work as part of a team to ensure that individuals achieve personally meaningful goals for independence, community access, and skill development

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Support individuals to become as self-sufficient in all areas of daily living
    • Work with the residential team to identify areas of concern and improve service. Provide constructive input and recommendations to improve existing policies, procedures, and protocols
    • Support individuals within the residence to locate and access community resources that meet their unique and evolving needs
    • Act as a positive role model for community members, co-workers, and those you support
    • Advocate for the meaningful inclusion and active participation of individuals within their community
    • Work with the residential team to maintain a safe and healthy environment for those you support. To ensure high standards of care are intact
    • Coach and instruct individuals
    • Facilitate the involvement of family members and friends in the lives of the individuals you support
    • Respect each individual's right to privacy and confidentiality.
    General administration, report writing, record keeping, and accountability of funds
    • Actively practice the Values, Beliefs, and Future Directions of ConneXions in an ethical, caring, and professional manner

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
    • Certificate in human services or a related field (equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered)
    • Minimum of six months relevant experience in a similar environment

    JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Satisfactory English receptive and expressive communication
    • Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others
    • Knowledge of theory, principles and practices in the field
    • Ability to function efficiently under pressure and manage multiple concurrent demands
    • Training and or experience in augmentative communication

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS
    • Class 5 BCDL (minimum) - Class 7 and the International Drivers Licence will not be accepted
    • Criminal record check
    • Valid first aid and crisis intervention (NCI) certification
    • Medical approval
    • Tuberculosis clearance
    • Satisfactory reference checks
    • Reliable vehicle and valid BC driver's license (class 5)
    • Successful completion of ConneXions orientation
